Hey guys I've got a strange issue with my KE20 currently. I'm getting a clunk every now and then while driving coming from the rear passenger wheel. When I jack up the car and get the rear wheels off the ground I'm able to pull on the wheel and feel it pull about 1-2mm towards me, but this is only at a single point on the wheel. Ive already replaced the wheel bearing but they didn't seem to fix it? There was alot of play in the old bearing. And before anyway asks every bolt is very tight! Any ideas?? The Axel looked normal when i took it out??

Hey guys, I recently had quiet an extensive argument with a mate of mine about a NA car vs a turbo car. Basically what I was saying is if two cars lined up to each other and they both were making the same power but differently aspirated (turbo and NA) the NA would have more chance of winning, as the power is all done internally and doesn't rely on a turbo. My boss was saying that it would depend on how the NA car was tuned as in what Cam/headwork/blockwork was done. So what do you guys reckon?

As this is my first car I really don't know a whole lot about some stuff so: How do I get my steering wheel off? How do I fit a boss kit? What do I do about my horn? Also what's a good steering wheel to get? Nice look and feel but isnt going to cost a heap! Thanks guys

Okay. People keep telling me they can swap gearboxes in like... an hour. Or less. Or thereabouts. I've done this 3 times now in the past 2 months, the best I've done is about 4.5 hours. Today has been particularly shit. I've been at it non stop for the past 5 hours. The box isn't even in the car yet. Plus this time the box was actually ready to bolt back in where's the last 3 I've actually had to swap bellhousing etc. I've spent the past hour alone trying to bolt the box to the engine, and then in my frustration and ranting I managed to tip the jack over and drop the box on top of me, that hurt. I give up for tonight... Am I missing something HUGE here?…

Well, today it was time to a) Spend some more money b) do something to the Ke20 c) continue down my path of being dodgie with a good outcome. So, we put all those together, and you come up "fixing the cracks in the ke20's dash!" Let the pictures do the talking. Oh btw, the stuff i used is 4x sticks of hot glue gun :P Enjoy!

I was wondering if anyone has ever hooked up an oil catch can to a k series engine? and, how it was done? Just a question that has been bugging me... And if it was attached, would it really be of any use, or should it just be left for the turbo cars? Thanks :((

Pricing on this does not matter if you are going to do something you might as well do it properly. So any advice would be grealty appreciated. :hammer:

Hi, I was just google-ing on the net and found the site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_K_engine#3K about toyota K motors. It says here that the 4K has 60HP and the 3K made 68HP. I am about to install a 4K into my car so by going on the information on this site I am giving my car less power. But Some sites are usually wrong so I wanted the opinion off this forum on what has more power stocka dn an exact value if soem one has one. Cameron

I just took my rolla out for a spin and after driving for about 10 mins, I noticed than when i put my foot down the engine bogged down and through the rev range it seemed to cough & splutter The other thing i noticed was that it had trouble revving past about 5000rpm(didn't seem to want to rev out) I think it has something to do with the carbs (twin dellortos) But i'm really not sure Has anyone come across this and how can i fix?

I have a '87 Corolla hatch. I love it so far. But! I need more power. It seems to lack speed pick-up, I struggle to get to 80 uphill, and as I do a lot of hills driving I need a bit of grunt. I don't want to spend a awful lot. So idea's are appreciated. Thanks, Tim.

Hi, In a few months I plan to build a mild 5k for my car. For a while I have been considering different options for my build, but had not thought about rockers much. I know of some people who build holden 6s and similar era engines, and one of the mods they do is to install roller-rockers and up the rocker ratio. This aims to have the valve accelerating off the valve seat faster, and to produce reasonable power without having to run huge lift in a street car engine (that would result in rapid wear and lack of driveability). Has anyone tried/considered altering the rocker setup in a k motor, and are there any of these parts around for such a small engine?

Hey all, got a real nice and healthy 4k-c 4 speed, which sits in a late ke38. Was thinking of puting a 18R in it, but i've been told its a lot of mucking around for little reward. I was also considering the 2t conversion but its only 13kw up on the 4k to begin with, so that sounds like a waste of time to me. Anywho, as i stated, my 4k-c is in very good condition so i thought why not mod it. The 4k is rated at 45kw on most sites, so i was wondering what the following mods will fetch me: Stage 3 cam, double valve springs, mild port job, extractors and 2 inch exhaust and a set of twin 1.5 inch SU's. What kinda kw's at the fly can i expect... approx???

Hey all, Has anyone ever weighed their KE20. I was assuming mine would weigh similar to the kerb weight listed in my manual, to my surprise my ke20 sedan with cage, race seat, no carpet, no hood lining, with half a tank of fuel weighed in at 938kg. I don't understand why it is so heavy. It has a 3k, 4 spd, banjo diff. alloy wheels, etc. what do you guys think Andrew

hey guys, pulled the weber off my 4ac today as it has been running like a bag of shit (and had to fix the linkage). cleaned out the jets, blew everything out, checked and cleaned out accelerator pump. noted one of the jets in the bottom of the bowl had a bit of shit in it and was half blocked. put it all back together, sealed up and bolted it back on. got it running and it was still doing the same thing that it was before. when you first start it, its pooring so much fuel down it, it will not run any faster then about 700rpm. over the next 3 minutes (as it starts to warm up i guess), it gradually builds up until it clears and is drivable (still very boggy at l…

Thread contents and title changes as I had Zenki's mixed up with Kouki's. :lolcry: Something I discovered on the weekend and mentioned in my projects thread, thought I might chuck it up here so more people see it. I've had a Zenki T series from a T18 laying around for ages which is planned to go into my turbo car. Finally got around the stripping it down on the weekend for a reco and leaf conversion. As soon as I pulled the axles out I though to myself - "They don't look much bigger at all than a stock KE55 axle". So I thought I'd investigate it further....... So I sat the (Zenki and ke55) axles next to each other. And to be honest if I had to pick one as…

This may sound absolutely crazy. And i understand if it does sound crazy, so don't go skitz. I have a KE26, it's blue, lowered a bit in the front and 2.5inch in he rear. I have RA40 celica rims (14"), had a sudden ridiculous thought to put some flappers on. Thoughts, anyone? PS. I know i'll need a sun visor, but i don't like the mesh ones.

Greetings, I am having a problem with my 95 1.6L that I can't seem to figure out. I have searched many forums and tried many things that resolved others' similar problem with no luck. Basically, the car runs absolutely fine while driving along or for short distances. Once the engine temp gauge reaches the middle, at red lights or in traffic, the engine begins idling very rough and almost stalls. Once you're moving again and the temp cools, all is well. Here is what has been done so far. The fuel pump was replaced a few months ago due to a no-start issue. While troubleshooting that problem I swapped a few things and kept the originals, along with some other maintena…

i've been running leaded petrol in my ke70 since our family has had it. obviously, its been running LRP lately. unfortunatelly, LRP will no longer be available soon. i was told by my dad that i will need to run premium unleaded + additive. will i lose / gain power or long term reliability? are there any conversions that i can do to get more power / convert to plain unleaded? also, as a young kid at a deli would ask, "what can i get for fifty cents?" , i would like to ask.... whats the best performance upgrade i could get for say... $200 to my 4kc? ...(besides taking 100 kilo of crap out the boot)

Hey all Ive got a few questions with relation to the *E7* (Ke70/Te71/Te72); When you enter a car into a rally (like the one just passed), i know that you need your vehicle to have a motor that came with it from stock.. anywhere in the world. Eg. Scott's Ke70 Rally car with the 5k.. its an NZ Ke70, with a 5k. They can get around it because in Japan, one of the wagon (and sedan) models came out with a 5k = they can use a 5k! Basically, i know the Te70/Te71/Te72 came out with a T series motor, but to what i know, the T series 70's were all hatch back, 2 door things. Would the regulations be the same in that i could use a 2T series motor into my 4 door sedan K…

Hey Group, I just bought a 69 KE15 sprinter to play with. It is in pretty good shape and I'm trying to build it to run autox. The k motor is in fair shape needing minor tune-up and carb rebuild. I found a 3k that had been rebuilt recently with a new clutch and good looking carb with all components attached. The plan is to drop the 3k in and try to get as much out of it for as little $$ as possible. Is there any benefit to using the k head on the 3k block or will everything stay the same compression wise. I plan on trying to get the head ported as well with either of the two. Maybe try it myself on the k head and see if I can manage to make it work. Any suggest…

The diff in my KE70 has decided that is wants to shit itself (Not all the way shit itself but enough to not drive it incase it does break), I'm just wondering how much will it cost to buy a new or second hand one, it doesn't really matter if it is second hand because I will be getting a new diff with disk brakes just to upgrade them from shitty drums. So how much would a new diff be and to upgrade it to disks and how much would it cost to get a second hand diff, may have to get a new driveshaft because my cluth foot is kind of an itchy bugger, same as my throtle foot. Also is it bad when there is oil in the drive shaft tunnel just above where the driveshaft meet…

hey everyone, my unbreakable 4k...kinda broke was just coming home from selling and delivering my spare 4k, k50 and ke70 diff and coming out of the tolls with the empty trailer on i thrash it (its almost law that you thrash it coming out of the tolls :y:) and she sees around the redline in first, up to about 4500 in second then just normal driving but we notice as we carry on up the road shes one very sick little girl, feels like shes only running on 3 so bring her home, and sure enough, cylinder 3 is doing nothing different when u pull the lead off itl. so this morning did a quick test on the plug and lead, no worries. pull the rocker cover off and have a loo…

I have an ea82 seca and I'm wondering if its possible to convert to awd, I see the aus rally awd corolla that isn't avail to public. Do the awds still have the east west engine setup? The awds are very rare to see and are mostly those crappy wagons. Do the ae82s have the body to support an awd gearbox with the shaft and rear diff? Has anyone done anything like this before? I see a place for a shaft on the inside, but not really under the car. Does anyone have any photos of the awd driveline to share?

Hi, Just collecting information on a project I plan to start one day involving a K motor and ford fuel injection. So my main question is. The model that came out with the webber on it the XE I think it was also was optional with TBI fuel injection. Now ford ran a similar fuel injection system right up to the EA falcon. So I was woundering are they the same TBI unit or aiflow meter is the SAME mount pattern to the intake manifold there bolted to? Or after the XE with the manifold did it change to big bannana runners etc? Pics appreciated if anyone has a good under bonnet pic of a EA and down falcon fuel injection system. If they own a falcon Cameron
