Hey guys i own a 1980 toyota corolla ke55 wif a 4K engine the engine seems to be in pretty good condition as its only done about 162,000k's and have been driving the car for over a year wif no engine problems at all... Ive decided i wanna put some twin carbies on to it but have limited knowledge... I have a few questions, what do i need to do or get for the car to get them on apart from the manifold and carbies?? And what carbies are the best; Weber/ Dellorto/ Solex advantages/disadvantages of each?? Once everythings on the car is there anything i need to do to it like re tune or anything or do i just start driving the thing??? Also have any of u got some carbies and…

Hey all, The time has come to buy an aftermarket ECU for my 20v KE30 project, just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to which brand to go. I was looking at an LT10s but I've heard someone say that Microtech's are no good for 20v's. I realise that a lot of it is down to the tuner as to how good it works, but I'm hoping people can give me the benefit of personal experience. Ninja edit: Also if anyone can recommend a quality tuner in Melbourne for their chosen ECU I would be very grateful. Cheers, Sian

Hey Guys, Started having some major drama's with my KE30 today... Now I will admit I have next to no knowledge when it comes to automatic gearboxes... I was driving along today home from work... Started the car and drove off as per normal... All of a sudden I took off from some lights, the car goes to shift gear an the car starts to free rev? I pulled over as this was rather odd... Couldn't find anything wrong visually... So off I went again , car shifted normally and I thought all was well. However... next set of lights... took off fine, car goes to shift gear and again free revving... Basically, after pulling over and trying to find the soluti…

  5. Folks, Dropped a 5k block and head down at the engine builders to get a "work list" for stuff to get done to it. Please have a look through and offer opinions on pricing, where I might save cash and if there are things I have missed (Camshaft for example isn't there) Prognosis is: Block needs a rebore. Here is the list of stuff he gave me: Block work: - $120 to Rebore to any size (probably 60 thou over because I can) - $40 to deck the block - $50 to remove camshaft bearings and hot-bath the block to clean it up - $40 for new cam bearings - $250 for new pistons and rings, size to suit bore etc. Block work total: $500 - ~$300 for the Head work inclu…

Hi all, As with the cooling issue thread I started a little while back I would also like to start an engine problem thread. I will start off. Engine problem: Idle is rough and jumpy I guess I will start off with my main question. Can an exhaust be too small for the engine to run smoothly??? The story behind my problem: I initially had a 2" system that I built myself and was running in the car for quite some time. Everything was good. Eventually I did a 5k + 5 speed conversion + electronic dizzy and everything went well. A couple of months down the track I decided that I wanted to do a change in the exhaust so I replaced my 2" system back to the orig…

The Ae71 is running superb and not giving me any hassles which is great  However I'm having a little trouble, (more of an annoyance really) when it come's to starting it. Cold, starts fine, hot also starts fine. If I get out of the car and leave it for a few minutes it's fine but if I leave it for 20 minute's or so it's a bastard to start. I have to hold my foot to the floor which seem's to get it to fire after maybe 6 second's of cranking. If anyone could shed a little light on this that would be great.. I mean sure if it was hard to start all the time I'd have places to look, but its only once its hot and has been sitting for a short period of time... …

So tax return its in lol.... Seriously looking into converting to ae86 struts in the 55. I actually have a hsd kit in the shed for 55 struts but the old issue of shock choice is one problem, then brake upgrades is the other. I love the look of the new 'big daddy' t3 Wilwood kit (now has vented rotors for anybody who hasn't looked in a while). So thinking 86 is probably the way to go. The 2 kits I'd like opinions/experience on is the pre-fab ajps and t3 kits. For the sake of an accurate comparison both are available with kyb agx shocks, so I'll work with those prices. Ajps are $1390, plus I don't have exchange struts so I'm up for another $245. then again for the sak…

Hey guys, I'm not gonna fark around with the car anymore and basically just trying to get it on the road working and running... so time has come to put some new brake pads in.... This is what I have been told to do: 1, take wheels off 2, take calipers off 3, Suspend calipers so they don't hang from brake lines 4, unclip clips and remove brake pad 5, use a clamp to put piston in 6, put new pads in 7, redo clips, bolt calipers back on and put wheel on... The end.... or is it? Anything I missed ? If anyone knows how to do it... please tell me.. or even give me a hand pretty please.

  20. It appears that I've got a small problem with my headlights on the Corolla. When the car is off, if I turn the headlights on, the dash highbeam light comes on, but the headlights don't. I can hear the headlight relay click, but the lights don't actually come on. If I turn the engine on, then everything works as they should. If I then turn the engine off with the lights on, the lights stay on. *sometimes* when I turn the lights on (with the engine off), they come on, but most of the time it just brings up the highbeam light... And, if I push the stalk to highbeam, nothing happens. But if I flick it to flash the highbeam, the highbeam comes on. WTF??…

I'm a bit worried about my KE70. I was driving it today on more or less no oil (I didn't know until I got home)... each time I'd brake or go slow in a high gear it would begin to stall. I filled it up with oil as soon as I got home but it still wants to stall... can anyone think of a reason for any of this? Also the brake lights have stopped working... I've recently put on Superlites that are bigger than the stock wheel so could this have something to do with the brakes? Should I get larger brakes to handle the size increase? Edit: fixed the brake lights they were both blown for some reason. Cheers.

The fuel pump had a slight weep from the gasket so I took it out, cleaned it up and attempted to repair it with some rtv lol. Then later that night when I was out she started idling quit…

  32. I decided to replace my front shockies due to a major leak which caused a failed warrant of fitness. So i ripped into bnt and ordered a full set thinking all would be all cool.... Backs went in piece of piss... But to cut a long story short the front struts were completely different to the ones that i ordered. Apparently the ones i ordered were factory Carina inserts, but they have no seat for the spring?! Surely i shouldn't have to weld one on? so I'm guessing somebody along the line has converted the fronts to ke70 struts maybe?! I'll attach the struts in comparison and the list the part numbers. Ive googled it and the best possible solution is that the toyota starlet turbo engine should bolt up fairly easy....... but he doesnt want to lose displacement..... He really love a 4age turbo but its guna cost him.. Does anyone know of anyone else who has done any upgrades to one of these models?? I'm sure it would be alot of messing around to get it turbo charged - roughly $10k... Thanks :D
