Hey all Well, as you know ive got 1x Ke20 in my driveway with 1x very sad 3k. So, ive been deciding on a few options for it latelly, and come up with some ideas. First up, get the interiour upto scratch, complentating a bit of custom gauge work, but that will come over time. Fix the body up, and do something about those guards. The ROH's are staying on that car. Bahhaha ANYWAY! Motorwize is what i want to talk about. I was thinking it would be wize to put a motor in thats going to work for the car, and suit its purpose. The car was going to be an investment project, get it all good, flog it off - but i luve it too much, and thats now changed. I would like …

I've got silly tiny little jap-spec drums on my AE35, and I must say - they are absolutely pathetic. I thought maybe they needed a bit of adjustment/cleaning, so I did that today, spent half the day in fact. Everything is schmick now (although I do think the drums could use a tad of machining), and the drums are working a lot better than they were before (read: not working at all), but they are still pathetic. They will hold the car on a 15 degree incline, and not much more. Not a chance in hell on my driveway. And definately not a chance in hell of locking up the wheels with the tyres I have on now. I've got the bigger aus-spec drums on my KE55, and while the…

OK... this may be a funny question to ask, but I feel no harm in asking? Can K50 5 Speeds put up with anything up to 200bhp? Or will they become schrapnel internally before long? Is there a contact to build these boxes strong enough to withstand more power? Could T50 innards fit inside a K50 if this being the case? Is it WORTH building up one of these boxes? I have run a sarch on this topic before asking and I haven't found anything that really answers this question... so any help on this question would be appreciate it. I intend on keeping a 5K motor in the KE55 for a little bit, if this is of importance. Cheers

hey fellas, just a little help on what to do here. i own a ke70, and there is probably not one inch of body rust anywhere! which is great, although when i was changeing the radiator, i noticed on the right, bottom, bellow say the bottom orange indicator (or wateva it is) a huge amount of BAD rust.. wen i say bad i mean bad... like I'm almost 80% sure its structual rust, but i think it might be possible to fix it. rego runs out in november, so i have kinda til then to fix it all up. the way i look at it, is, to fix it up ide have to take out all radiator, supports, bumper- basically the front of the car.. now i could grind it back and then manufacture or, from …

I'm gonna change my exhaust because it's f@$ked.. it seems I'm gonna use the default exhaust manifold.. but what do you guys recommend for size? first twin 1,5" then 2" the rest? I want top end power, but I'm also going to use the car as a 'almost-daily-driver'.. so I also want some low end torque.. if ya know..

OK, I'm looking at making an incar mixture guage for tuning with the twin SUs- I want to be able to optimise the needle shape without spending a fortune at the local dyno shop having him read the mixtures for me every time. So I assume I can build a Jaycar LED display for $20, which hooks up to an oxygen sensor and flashes different coloured LEDs depending on the A/F ratio. Now, can I hit the wreckers and buy a pair of oxygen sensors from two cars down there?? ..and will narrow-band do it or do I need to go to wideband? It will be the sort of thing that gets used for a month until I'm happy with the carbs and then thrown under the stairs, so if anyone want…

Hi, I am searching around now for 3F lifters to place into my 5K at home. I went to super cheap they had a quick look in the parts cataloge and couldn't find them. So I am wondering does anyone know a place I can get 3F motor lifters cheap? Also what are they worth new? Or is it cheaper to get used ones and reface them? Cheers Cameron

Hey guys. Yesterday I bought my first car, a 1976 ke 30 sedan 5 speed. I'm 15 and 3 months so I can't yet drive on the road, so I have time to save money from my job. I was driving my ke30 around in a paddock earlier and, well, I have already decided I want more power. I know the 4age is the most popular swap for a ke70, but I don't know about the ke30. Can you guys give me some ideas and the pros and cons of some engines? Thanks

Hello to all. this is my first mechanical question....so be gentle. There is a growing trend in the US of removing all mufflers from your car and puting a turbo in the location where the rear muffler was. So I'm thinking about doing this to a ke55 coupe and would just like to get any thoughts from you all. Is this a good idea? will it be to loud with no muffs? Has any one else done this? So heres the plan..... step 1. An exhaust pipe runs to the back of the car and into a turbo 2. Air is drawn in from the rear under the car? I'm a little worried about sucking in water when its wet. another idea is to…

Cracked open 2 of my old T50 gearboxes today, one of them is a JDM AE86 box, the other is an ADM TA22 box. The JDM box has 2 missing teeth off the layshaft (2nd gear, I think), and apart from that can't tell very much. However, the oil was replaced less than a week before it self destructed, and the oil that came out previously had lots of sparkles. The TA22 box has lots and lots and lots of shiny sparkles. I replaced the TA22 box because it was making a hell of a lot of noise, and it kept popping out of gears all the time. Both boxes seem to have lots of little scratches across the wear face, and both of them also seem to have a bit of corrosion on the g…

Hey all, just curious as to what people think about these engines? I don't know a great lot about them, have searched a bit here and elsewhere but its a bit hard to search for them due to their title. They seem to be pretty popular with the celica crowd and can make around 160hp relatively easy (correct me if I'm wrong!) but less people have them in corollas. Is there a reason for this? Weight? I'm considering putting one in my KE70 as things are available and relatively cheap...! But just thought I'd get some opinions on: a) the 'hybrid' motor itself - how good is it etc b) whether or not its suitable for a KE70 Personally I can't see why it wouldn't me a reaso…

Hi, Well decided last weekend to do a engine swap on my car. I had a tired 4K in my KE30 and decided I wanted to use my rebuilt 5K so did the swap took 1 day and car ran well SHIT. Got around problem with a points dizzy so I could get enough advance on it (electric dizzy only gave 0 degrees TDC at most) and ran carby fuel level up. This all gave an idle of 1000RPM and for 100km trip used 15L of fuel and up high toped out at 5000RPM and top speed of 120km/h b4 car pretty much died. So got car today to a work shop and tested and this is what I got: Car at idle is to lean at a road running well high way motor speed car makes a shit load of un burnt fuel.…

Hey all Ive got a Question. With Aircon,- As u all know i have a ke70 (well, 2...) - and its got the 1.3 L. This is too little and aircon would liturally kill it. So, i thought - well, how about hooking up a powerfull 12 V Motor desenated to turn the aircon motor (assuming the wires are all done propery via what eva is needed) - Would this work? Also, what else is needed for airon? isnt there a seperate radiator or someing? - WHo here knows somting about aircon! - oh and u need all the pipes and that hehehe P.s - the 1.3 has a good lots space to the left of the block lol Thanks all Have a good x-mas - whats left of it! Cheers, Teddy

Gday guys. The other day ont he way home from work my clutch wasnt disengaging properly and thus it was quite difficult changing gears. Not what i wanted at the time as it was f###ing hot. Anyway i thought id fixed it by moving the circlip where the clutch goes through the firewall but that lasted a few days and the problem is back again. I have a 5k with a 5 speed gearbox out of a ke 70. I was just wondering if you guys could shed any liight on the topic as it is really pissing me off. I've checked every point along the cables travel and ive since deduced that it must be somthing wrong internally. Also the problem seems intermittent and only plays up when i exceed 3500 r…

Have a welder? Want a bigger exhaust? In fact you don't even need a welder (although it will end up cheaper if you do . Go down to your local wreckers such as the wonderfull U-Gank it here in adelaide and go down to the falcodore section of the yard. There you will find two sizes of exhaust, 2.25" and 2". I opted for the 2" because it should suite a 4k just fine. The 2" systems generally come from the early model cars and the 2.25" come from the newer models. The other reason I chose the 2" was because they come with longer stright sections and the hump for clearing the axle is a bit longer. They also had less resonators/mufflers taking up precious exhaust leng…

Hey guys I've been chasing a misfire/det for the last two weeks and suspected it to be a manifold gasket leak on my wee 4k in the second cyl. So earlier I ripped both manifolds off and to my surprise found them really easy to remove?! Gasket was near new condition, so I was thinking maybe previous owner didn't tighten them down enough? Causing the leak? How firm can you tighten these bad boys down? Anyone know the torque settings? or can I just keep them tighter than a nun LOL Just don't want to strip or round off the bolts... happy I've possibly found the cause to all this drama... cheers!

Hey All Well the time has come for me to start to look into suspension. My ke70 atm has a complely_bog_stock suspension setup. As i am new to the suspension world, i have tured to my fellow rollaclub members for there views / susgestions on the topic! What i would like... (in order of prefrence) 1. Cutt out some of the un-nessary body roll (when car was road worthied, mechanic said shockies were on the way out) 2. Slightly lower the car (not too much, but just a lil :D ) lol What the car will be used for... 1. Road use - it will be my driving car! 2. Motorkahan's - yes, as soon as i get my p's , the Motorkahans are up on the table ! …

Before you go an embark on the mission to put an LSD into your old schoo Corolla, think about how much it will cost. I didn't, and now I'm regretting it. This LSD had better be God's gift to the world. Remember that on top of actually buying the LSD, you also need to get a diff to suit, brakes to suit, possibly (and probably) new bearings, oil, and all the other stuff that goes with getting a diff set up. My diff center ALONE, to date owes me just under $2500. That's with no oil. The actual LSD was only $1300. $700 for gears, and $450 for new bearings, and the labor to put it all together. On top of this there's wheel bearings, buying and setting up t…

I thought i'd start this after talking to Teddy about his engine he's building. i found this out the hard way in my starlet, running a 5k, it would Accelerate really hard and the last thing i expected when i went to freshen the engine up, was to find number one big end almost run. soon as i saw this i knew what had caused it, it was running just a standard sump, with so much acceleration the oil was been thrown to the back of the sump, staving the engine of oil. Now i'm wondering how many people out there have the same thing happening and don't know it, my oil light NEVER came on(remenber the oil switch is only 10psi). a little food for thought.

G'Day Peoples, Just wondering what type of spark plugs you guys use and how often you change them? Also.....do you think (say that you prefer NGK spark plugs) that their Iridium spark plugs are any more effecient in a 3K/4K/5K engine than standard spark plugs? Your views please.

Hey all, This is something I mentioned in a for sale thread last week, thought I'd take a couple of pics for those that want to see. Basically, all K motors have the same size exhaust ports except for a 7ke. 7kc still is still the same size as 3/4/5k's. Below is a couple of pics of a 7ke manifold gasket up against a 3k big port head. And for anybody who didn't know 7ke's also have bigger oval shaped inlet ports. If you round out the holes they're then the size of a 3kbp. size for the average pics, they're off my phone. Cheers, Si.

Well guys, since the 7k has died we've decided to do a full rebuild It is coming out of the car this week. My engine rebuilder has never done a 7k and said he has very little tech data on them. If anybody has any info that may help it would be appreciated. We hope to develop it beyond factory specs. So things like cam angles , valve settings, basically anything and every thing. When we have aquired as much info as pos we will then work out what to do. I will try to keep as much info as possible and post our results when finished

Hey, After my missing tools episode last week I decided to splurge and get myself a new tool-kit. The problem is, the place I went to the guys there treated me like an idtiot - and made me uncomfortable by making fun of me when they thought I couldn't hear/see them (fair enough I call it the bendy head socket, I may not know what it's really called, but I do know HOW to use it) but I'm going to be spending a couple of hundred bucks (not there anymore!!!). So I got to thinking what brand of socket sets/tool kits do you guys use? I know Kingchrome make Supertool brand and that my Dad would tell me to Go with Sidchrome. But I do loose bits (because people borro…

I'm going to go home and check to see if the sump plug decided to run away and not come home
